I think Miller's new transfer sounds only a tiny hair better than Winters' old transfer, probably due to having a couple steps less in the lineage. But it's not like a remastering miracle, or scraping the mud off a poor copy so that new delights are revealed... Those with better ears or equipment may know differently, but it sounds almost exactly the same as before - most people may not hear any difference. (It's always nice to get a source closer to the master though, and it indicates that the bass-heavy sound was part of the master, not the old copy.)

Anyway, I didn't post so much to say that, as to say that I put on the Dark Stars from the two sources simultaneously, but out of sync, and it was a very trippy listen that I recommend. You can create your own Grayfolded!

Staggered Lee approach to Dark Star probably went well with Phil's Coltrane theme in there. A bunch of cool themes in there. The other one I think I heard was My Funny Valentine.

I do this with a stream and my hard-drive version when comparing source quality sometimes. Probably good exercise for the brain.
